Week 3 – Assignment: Portray Effective Informed Consent

While informed consent is the duty of the healthcare provider, healthcare organizations have a duty to their patients to ensure they have competent staff and established policies and procedures for patient safety. You will demonstrate the correct process of informed consent by role-playing as a provider presenting informed consent to a patient. You will create your video presentation by using a video capturing tool Kaltura located in your resources for the week. To access the video capturing tool, follow the tutorial found in your Books and Resources for this Week.

To complete this assignment, you will need to have one person play the provider and another person play the patient.

The scenario is this: You have received complaints that a provider is failing to provide informed consent to a patient and only providing a consent form.

Your assignment is to work with that provider by providing an example of the process of informed consent through role play. Be sure to:

1. Use lay terms

2. Detail the required information for informed consent

3. Have the “patient” ask questions

4. Utilize a script to best meet the informed consent requirements
