To stay on top of business standards and be competitive with others, businesses and organizations need to come up with a variety of ways to change and be on top of things. Reengineering and continuous improvement are two methods used to help improve organizations and achieve goals. They are the same as they have the same moral to improve businesses and organizations, but are different in the way they are used. Reengineering focuses on redesigning the structure and systems “to achieve a breakthrough in business results” (Stair, p.53, 2018). Reengineering in healthcare can improve patient care and enhance productivity in healthcare. Moreover, continuous improvement seeks way to improve business structures to add value. By doing so, “This continual change will increase customer satisfaction and loyalty and ensure long-term profitability (Stair, p.53, 2018). Likewise in healthcare, continuous improvement can increase patient loyalty by constantly coming up with new ideas.

In order for the organizations to achieve their goals and to also remain competitive, they must make basic changes on how they do business. Reengineering and continuous improvement are the same because they are used to help improve the processes of every organization. However, there are also a difference between them in relation to information systems in a healthcare setting. According to Stair and Reynolds (2018),”Reengineering, also called process redesign and business process reengineering (BPR), involves the radical redesign of business processes, organizational structures, information systems, and values of the organization to achieve a breakthrough in business results” (p. 53). By using reengineering, organizations can achieve changes in performance. When reengineering is used successfully, it can decrease the time of processing and delivery and improve the quality of product and service. On the other hand, “…the idea of continuous improvement is a form of innovation that constantly seeks ways to improve business processes and add value to products and services” (Stair & Reynolds, 2018, p. 53). The frequent change of continuous improvement can increase satisfaction and loyalty in every customer or patient. Overall, I believe reengineering pays more attention on relations, while continuous improvement pays more attention on parts of a process or system.
