A final draft for my research paper

Comment from my teacher for first draft: “This is a great topic, which you should definitely pursue. That said, you need a better bibliography (two of your sources are short blog posts) and some help from the University Learning Center with your writing (I will refer you). In order to beef up your bibliography, take a look at our textbook, the SAGE Handbook (I have provided links in previous emails). In other words, search it for the keywords of your topic, and look at its extensive bibliographies for each of its sections. I’m not sure the Colosseum is a great example (unless you want to talk about its current touristic/monumental role), because ancient Rome was not a capitalist system.”

The book is called SAGE Handbook of Architectural Theory.

Some basic pointers/advice for the writing process:

— Avoid lists of facts (architect’s CV, building specs, etc.). If necessary/relevant, they can be included in your introduction. That is not to say that facts will be irrelevant to your argument, but they need to be embedded in/part of a larger argument (e.g. if you are writing about environmentalism, environmental facts will play a role in your argument).

— Avoid making arguments in your conclusion. They belong in the main body of your text. The conclusion is there to restate your arguments (and maybe for a little speculation).

— I would recommend that those of you who have chosen the 3 theory/1 example formula divide the main body of their essay into three sections, in each of which you explain the area/aspect of theory, and apply it to your example. Those of you who chose the 3 examples/1 theory formula, should divide their main body into 4 sections, one of which explains the area/aspect of theory, while the remaining three apply the theory you explained to each of the examples.

— Your paper should be at least 2,000 words long, and no longer than 3,000 words. Please provide a word count.
