I have never been a fan of those type of shows, even though they do bring forth a serious and disgusting issue. For this week’s discussion board we will discuss whether or not it is legal or ethical for an investigator to go undercover, and pose as a minor as a means of ultimately arresting the adult should the person proposition the minor during their meeting. Romans 3:4 says “Let God be true though everyone were a liar, as it is written. That you may be justified in your words and prevail when you are judged.” (Holy Bible).
Internet sex crimes against children have been on the rise because of the advancement in computer technology. Because of this a completely new global forum has been created for sexual offenders. This has created a forum for a child predator to have access to children all over the world, law enforcement is aware of hundreds of thousandths of people like this and are making every effort to bring them to justice Hess & Orthmann, 2017). The concept of having an officer pose as a minor as a means to catch a predator seems very unethical, because they will get a false confession and possibly put words into the mouth of the child predator. Though this does not seem to be a legal or ethical practice, it is good police work in my opinion. I see the adult as a child predator, the police are assuming this but just need to catch the person in action, in my opinion that would be one more child predator taken off the street. As the article states, lies are immoral because they are an illegitimate means to an end (McCartney & Parent, 2015). As a Christian, regardless of the circumstances we should never lie, doing this type of tactic is borderline.
