Samsung S7 Note Crisis Management
Address how you will include the required components: crisis, leadership handling, communication plan and response, and suggestions to improve;
Samsung released their new phone Galaxy S7 Note on August of 2012. The company was a direct competitor to Apple and their new “big phone” had big expectations in the market. The phone debuted with good overall reviews in Asia and the U.S, the high demand was Samsung’s main concern. However, after the release numerous reports claimed the phones were bursting into flames (Continuity Central,2018). The impact was estimated to cost Samsung 4.4 billion pounds and a decline of profits by 30% (Continuity Central,2018).
Our group will address Samsung’s crisis by citing news reports, academic articles and gathering official statements from Samsung about the situation. A couple academic articles cited Samsung’s crisis management, and attribute their response to certain characteristics in their PR strategy. We plan to mention these sources to establish the crisis.
We will include leadership handling by mentioning the essential qualities of organizational leadership and how Samsung displayed some of these qualities in handling the crisis. We will address the communication plan and response going through and revising Samsung’s public relations and research strategy. Using the Situational Crisis Communication Theory and Image Restoration Theory (Dejene,2017) we will compare them to Samsung’s response and mention key points in their implementation of strategy and communication across their organization and branches in other countries.
Our group will identify the strengths of Samsung’s crisis management and areas where there was room for improvement. We will find references of how this type of crisis has been handled in the past and compare the efficiency to Samsung’s.
Approach for developing the project.
The approach our group will take to develop the project will be to first explain the crisis that is at hand with the S7 Note. From there we will analyze the crisis and how it was handled through the components that are required. Within our paper, we will analyze the actions that were taken by Samsung during the crisis and explain what else could have been done or why the actions taken were appropriate for the crisis. The paper will provide any suggestions that could have helped with this crisis containing the required components for the paper.
