"BETTY", a song by Taylor Swift Characters of the song: Betty, James, and Inez Conflict: Betty and James were once great lovers. However, James did the worst thing he can do to Betty and everything falls apart between them. Theme of the Song: Love, and Forgiveness Flash Fiction Title: BETTY Story: It is year 1989. There is this girl whose name is Bettina Osborne. She is an intelligent, energetic, and a fine girl. Her friends usually call her "Betty", a nickname that she founds cute for her. Everything is happening wonderfully in her life. However, it isjust her skin; wherein nothing is wrong and is beautiful, but being despises in a society she is living in. She is black. Also, there was a boy whose name is James Watson. He is a famous boy whose everyone looks up to. He is a young lad whose father is a mayor, and his mother; Inez, is a very beautiful and influential woman. Aside from that, most people; specially girls, like him not just because of his high status but also because he is white. However, James is different. There is no prejudice in his heart and he has a heart for everyone no matter what are their skin color. One day; it is afternoon, Betty is being bullied. Kids are saying to her that she is dirty because of her colored skin. Fortunately, James came to save her and stops the bullying. There, the two became the best of friends. They spend most of their childhood together and became lovers when they turn adults. Years past and everything is a fairy tale for Betty that is a grown woman now. For her, everything will already be fine because someone accepted her despite of her skin. That is James. However, she was shaken down by a news she heard. Inez told her that his son will already be marrying another woman. She said to Betty, "You are not that woman; and most of all… she is not black. " After hearing that, Betty’s world is all destroyed. It feels like everything in her grows weak. She just spends most of her days crying. With that, she does not have any choice but just to leave her hometown for it cause her great pain. Meanwhile, there is James. He is so afraid and is so sad that he said yes to a marriage that his mother arranged to him. He does not want it. He hates it. He also despises it the most that he knows Betty already knew it and he didn’t do anything. However, he doesn’t have any choice to obey it because if he doesn’t, his family will renounce him. Then, the day of James’ marriage came. That is also the day that Betty will leave her hometown. Suddenly, a warm wind touches James cheek. He feels the wind and it feels like Betty’s touch. He then remembers the days that they are together and how he truly loves Betty. "Betty!", James shouted. In a rush, he runs and escape the wedding he does not like. He follow Betty on the bus terminal and there he founds him. The two run to each others arms and kiss. REFERENCE: Betty Song by Taylor Swift
