Personal growth and development never stop. As a professional, you will always be challenged with new ideas, new techniques, and new information. Part of growing and adapting to these challenges is being able to do a self-evaluation and create a response plan. In this workshop and throughout the course, you will be completing a focused self-evaluation and developing a plan to address any gaps.

The American College of Healthcare Executives is one of the leading professional societies for healthcare administrators and can provide a wealth of resources to enhance your career. We will utilize their tool to begin the journey of self-reflection and assessment.

There are two parts to this assignment. The first part is for you to write a paper about the assessment result and reflection, and the second part is for you to work on the Personal Development Plan template that will be used throughout this course. You may download and save it to keep using the same document, which will be updated and added on with new content every workshop.

Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:

• Evaluate personal management capabilities and design a plan for continual growth.

Background Information

The American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE.org) is a professional organization that supports the growth, development, and networking of healthcare professionals. The ACHE’s Healthcare Executive Competencies Assessment Tool is designed to use in assessing healthcare leaders’ expertise in critical areas of healthcare management.

Review the information provided at this tool: ACHE Competency Self-Assessment(PDF document). This tool is self-scored, and there are no right or wrong answers. Your assessment is based on your personal knowledge and previous experience. You would not be expected to score a 5 in many areas at this stage of development.

Instructions

1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.
2. Complete Section Two of the ACHE Competency Self-Assessment(PDF document), “Leadership.”
3. In a two-page paper, write your personal development plan around this area of performance:
   a. Discuss characteristics in which you believe you excel.
   b. Discuss areas in which you believe you need to develop.
   c. Identify specific methods or tools you will use to develop.
4. Format your paper using the correct APA style, including a title page and reference page. Note that the title page and reference page do not count as part of the two-page requirement. (For APA formatting resources, please access the Academic Writer (new 7th edition)(new tab) website in the Course Homepage widget on the side to create your account which will give you access during this course.)
5. As a separate document, continue completing the Personal Development Plan template that you downloaded in 1.4 Assignment, itemizing any areas of improvement and action steps to achieve the desired outcome. Note that you will continue to add to this template each week as you review a new section of the assessment. In the final week, you will post your final version of the plan.
