I’ve worked in different hotels before I landed in corporate. I was in the the the hospitality industry for years. The culture in hospitality is very diverse and it makes a significant influence on the hospitality business. Cultural diversity is highly important in the hospitality business due to the global-related industry. I remember whenever we have guests from France, we would call one of our French-speaking employees to help translate the clients’ concerns or messages. And/or whenever we get guests from different countries (esp. if it is a small and far country) and we mention that we know someone who works at the hotel who is also from the same country they get thrilled and excited. The hospitality industry is fun and exciting, made a lot of friends and learned about different cultures, and though it could get really toxic too, there are a lot of jealousy and rivalries and misunderstanding – which I think is pretty common in any work environment. Values affect how members interact and represent the organization. A good culture fit between employee and employer is crucial to ensuring performance, satisfaction, and engagement. Therefore, communicating company culture should always be a key element in a hotel’s acquisition strategy. One of the biggest challenges in hospitality is Cultural awareness, sensitivity, and understanding of cultural differences should be perceived as a critical issue for business success. They should offer diverse perspectives and experiences. Another thing is the implementation of technology, the management wouldn’t want to spend or invest in better technologies and would rather suck it up and/or could care less. Another thing is reputation management – at that time before we change our management, they didn’t handle the negative comments well and that turned our guests away. Good reputation management can easily help a business to gain trust. Hence, positive reviews can lead potential customers to trust the business even more. A good reputation means that the business is more credible than its competitors. One of the best things I enjoyed in the unique culture of hospitality is workers/staff tend to stick together, even sharing camaraderie with employees of a rival company.
