20 Mar Visual Dynamics Bibliography

Assignment – Review the powerpoint for Week 8 – Approaches to Art – found in ‘Syllabus’ . Choose an artist as your subject and create a bibiography – or list of sources – that relates to a specific approach to evaluating their art. This list should include a brief but specific description of how the source (essay, article, or video) relates to your topic. 

1.) Select an artist whose work you want to learn more about. This can be someone you learn about in the course this semester, an artist you’ve read about in the news or, if you like, you can ask me or your classmates to suggest an artist. I have also uploaded a powerpoint with examples of works by artists who I think would work well for this project.

2.) Do research on the artist’s process, content and prefered medium. How does the artist’s medium and/or imagery work to communicate what the artist is trying to convey with their work?

3.) Select one artwork for the many you’ve looked at to analyze by applying tools we’ve used throughout the semester, including ethos, pathos, logos as well as approaches related to schools of thought like feminism, Marxism and semiotics or themes like iconographic, formal, structural. 

4.) create a bibliogaphy of 5 different sources from the database above, books and journals from the library or videos that you can use for your research. Submit the title and author of your source and a brief paragraph describing the info in the source and how it relates to a specific approach to art.
