Objective:

To create an action plan based on your observations and to evaluate the plan.

Scenario:

Jay-Jay is a 3-1/2-year-old preschooler. She is usually a happy, outgoing child, but lately she has been quiet and reserved in the classroom. She has also started to cling to her mother when she leaves the preschool for work. This morning, Jay-Jay quietly hung up her coat, hat, and scarf, and walked over to you for her daily morning health check. You notice three small bruises on her upper right arm which are approximately 1/2 inch in diameter and equally spaced. When you ask Jay-Jay how she got the bruises, she avoids eye contact and says, "I fell off of the swing at the park."

1. Prepare a short description of what you have observed. List the items that might raise your concern and explain your rationale for including each one. Determine whether teachers in your state are required to report suspected child abuse and/or neglect and what agency has the legal authority to investigate such reports,

2. Create your Action Plan to address your concerns.
