As a group of (3-4 students), you will have an opportunity to serve on a committee with one of the following roles: a local school board chairperson (group leader to develop a 2-year plan), a school nutritionist to address current nutrition and changes, and a high school physical education teacher to address current activity and changes. If there’s a 4th student, the 4th person will be a 2nd nutritionist focused on education of students/parents for these 2 issues.

Collectively, the group’s goal is to put together an 8-10 GoogleSlide presentation to be presented to the Governor of your selected state, addressing the following for your group for one state and a school district within that state as you build your case.

Introduction of your topic

What are the opinions and concerns of you and your group members about the current diet provided in the school as well as nutritional education?

How is the school doing at addressing physical activity among youth? Compare the school’s activity plan to the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans Midcourse Report Strategies to Increase Physical Activity Among Youth? (opens in a new window)

What are the opinions and concerns of you and your group members about the current physical activity option/requirements in the school?

What changes in physical activity would you recommend and how would your group implement them over a 2-year period that would address the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans Midcourse Report Strategies to Increase Physical Activity Among Youth? (opens in a new window)

If there is a 4th member, the 2nd nutritionist can address education of students/parents for these 2 issues.
