This 1852 lithograph, published in the French satiric journal Le Charivari, expresses well the dominant reaction to progressive art produced in the mid to late 19th century, especially in France. The Module 7 Discussion provides an opportunity to look more deeply into works that challenged Academy definitions of fine art in France.
