18 Nov prepare a Book Review of The Line Through the Heart: Natural Law as Fact
In Week One, you discussed the pre-cursors to Natural Law. In Week Two, you will prepare a Book Review of The Line Through the Heart: Natural Law as Fact, Theory, and Sign of Contradiction. As stated in the assignment instructions in the Course Content area, be sure to mention the Natural Law theories of the thinkers covered in the first two weeks (Plato, Aristotle, and Cicero) and include a discussion of their relationship to universal citizenship and active statesmanship. Please read the Book Review instructions, and the rubric carefully. Please do not regurgitate the book (I read it already), rather, paraphrase the topics you would like to discuss, and provide a well-reasoned critique of the points you highlighted. For example, rather than provide a summary of each chapter in the book, provide a discussion about Budziszewski’s ideas of Natural Law compared to Plato, Aristotle, and Cicero. State clearly whether or not you agree with the author and why or why not, provide scholarly evidence to make your point. Continue this line of examination for each discussion point, (i.e universal citizenship and active statesmanship). If there are other ideas from the book that you find relevant and interesting to compare and contrast to the philosophers, feel free to do so, but be mindful of the page count requirements. Also, use direct quotes sparingly or not at all. Direct quotes should not make up more than 10% of your paper.
