Purpose
Providing our patients with information to enable them to make positive choices in their own health care is a vital role of the respiratory therapist. In this motivational interview, you will converse with a live “patient” (can be a friend, family member, colleague, etc. – it just needs to be another person) to practice these skills.

For this assignment, you will have a choice of whether to do a mock motivational interview or produce pages that describes the concepts related to motivational interviewing. With the video option, you will practice motivational interviewing as a means of participating in transactional communication with a fictitious COPD patient, which is intended to help you in future patient interactions. You will also be expected to make videos for future classes within this program (and potentially in future professional capacities, too), and practicing this skill will help to develop both proficiency and confidence. However, for those wishing to complete the page instead, this assignment offers you an opportunity to practice your academic writing skills while still engaging with the important topic of motivational interviewing. Either option is acceptable.

Instructions – Option 2, Motivational Interviewing Assignment
Alternatively, you may write the pages about motivational interviewing.

Access the TEMPLATE linked at the bottom of the page and save a copy as “[Last Name] Motivational Interviewing Assignment.”
The body of the paper must be 2-3 pages in length
All text should be double-spaced (throughout the entire document, not just the body of the paper)
This length requirement does NOT include your title or reference pages. So with these 2 additional pages, the minimum length is more like 4-5 pages.
Include the following:
Include a title page
Include at least 2 headings (including Conclusion ok)
Include a minimum of 1 reference page
Include a minimum of 2 sources
Include a minimum of 1 in-text citation from each source
Ideally, each paragraph should have at least one in-text citation (if not more like 2-4).
Remember that in-text citations are not just for quotes! Often the best way to cite a reference is with a parenthetical citation (Author et al., year) at the end of a sentence.
Use no more than 1 direct quotation for the entire assignment. You are not required to include any direct quotes. In fact, it is preferred that you do not use quotes.
All elements of the assignment must be formatted according to APA 7th edition ‘Student Paper’ requirements.
This includes the structure and style of the title and reference pages, as well as headings and in-text citations within the body of the paper.

When you are ready to submit, come back to this page and upload your document.
Option 1: If you used the Word document template, this should be fairly simple. Upload your document as you would any other file.
