Discussion: Security of Mobile Health Technology

Purpose

This assignment is intended to help you learn to do the following:

• Analyze mobile technology use in healthcare organizations.
• Develop security recommendations for a mobile technology use policy in a healthcare organization.

2. Watch the following videos:

3. Pretend that you are the Director of Privacy at a large hospital and are writing a memo to the Board of Trustees to implement a new policy on using mobile devices in your facility.
4. Respond to these prompts in your initial post:
   1. Introduce the types of mobile devices found in healthcare today and their uses.
   2. Explain at least 2 risks of using mobile devices in a healthcare setting.
   3. Provide at least 4 recommendations for the hospital's acceptable use policy for mobile devices that include specific elements designed to minimize the risks you have identified.
   4. Include a reference list. All citations and your reference list must adhere to APA Guidelines.Links to an external site.
5. By the due date indicated, create your initial post.
6. By Sunday, reply to at least two of your classmates and discuss the following:
   1. Do you agree with the identified risks of using mobile devices in the health care setting and policy recommendations to minimize the risks? Why or why not?
   2. Did they think of anything that you did not?
   3. What did you learn from their discussion that you did not think of?
   4. Provide at least one challenging question to their assessment (and answer any posted to you).

During this module, we will discuss the impact that information and communication technologies have on patient care, health education, and medical research. We’ll consider current issues such as electronic medical records, the need for interoperability, mobile health technologies and telemedicine, healthcare data threats and patient safety, and consumer education.
