Establishing a culture for learning (Domain 2b)

How does the teacher convey the educational value of what the students are learning? Provide concrete examples.  

· What type of strategies does the teacher use to ensure the use of precise content language by students? Provide concrete examples.  

· What type of strategies does the teacher use to convince students of their capabilities, so students are willing to devote energy to the task at hand and they take pride in their accomplishments? Provide concrete examples.  

· How did the teacher encourage multiple perspectives among students. 

· What specific insights have you gained regarding the importance of establishing a culture of learning to influence your future instruction? Provide concrete examples of insights (no more than three) along with an explanation of how the insights will inform your instruction. Include our observation notes. 

Managing classroom procedures  (Domain 2c)

· How does the teacher encourage students to follow all classroom routines? Provide concrete examples. 

· What type of strategies does the teacher use to ensure little or no loss of instructional time?  

· To what extent do students know the established classroom routines? And to what extent are students engaged in self-monitoring for adherence to classroom procedures? Provide specific examples.  

· How does the teacher encourage other adults in the classroom to work with minimal supervision, if relevant? 

Communicating with Students (Domain 3a)

· In what ways did the teacher communicate the purpose of the lesson and its connection to the broader learning goals to students?  

· How did the teacher ensure that all students understood the purpose of the lesson and directions of the classroom procedures?  

· In what ways did the teacher’s explanation of content and purpose for the lesson connect students’ interests and/or lived experiences? 

· To what extent did the teacher use academic vocabulary throughout the lesson? Give specific examples of the types of academic vocabulary used and how it extended the students’ learning. 

· What structures did the teacher use to encourage students to contribute to extending their learning by explaining concepts to their classmates? 

· Based on your observation notes, what insights have you gained regarding the importance of communicating with students to influence your future instruction? Provide concrete examples of insights (no more than three) along with an explanation of how the insights will inform your instruction. Include observation and interview your Notes.

Based on your observation, analysis, and interview notes, what insights have you gained regarding the importance of importance of establishing a culture for learning by managing classroom procedures, and communicating with students to influence your future instruction . Align each insight with the appropriate  Touro Candidate Learning Outcome (name specific outcomes).
