Utilitarianism:
Building schools in rural areas is an example of their Utilitarianism, as this benefits the area’s youth and, therefore, their collective future.
C.A.F.E. has changed the way of buying coffee which makes it sustainable for the future, and is thinking of the ultimate outcome.
Deontology:
Working with the same farmers to build trusting relationships among them will ensure that the farmers and the Starbucks reps will want to make decisions grounded in the best interest of all involved.
Ensuring workers have food, clothes, and medical access is an example of doing unto others as done to themselves; this also falls under the “Care Ethic.” Fieser (2015) describes this as “the need to care for people who are in situations of vulnerability and dependency (Fieser, 2015, Sec 1.2).

One of the ethical problems is that many coffee farmers are going out of business, which will result in the way of life dying out, along with higher prices and a low supply, and possibly no more coffee farms, which would ruin my morning.
The C.A.F.E. buying program changed how Starbucks bought coffee?making the transaction sustainable for the future of the farmers and the coffee houses. Helping more than themselves as a corporation because these actions will ensure the farmers can stay in business for generations to come (Tabberer, 2010). Starbucks has created a program that allows transparency to the farmers about the pay received. This program also assists in sustaining the farmland and the workers by ensuring food, clothes, and medical access. As mentioned in our study guide, this is “seeking the greatest good for the greatest number of people” (Fieser, 2015, Sec 1.3). Working with a country’s government to adhere to their laws and help with social projects would also benefit more as the new schools and facilities will aid the country’s people and thus benefit the people they interact with in the future.
Starbucks has embraced these coffee farms as part of its business plan and included them among the people they are responsible for; in doing this, they have adopted the Utilitarian attitude of attempting to create the greater good for the most amount of people (Fieser, 2015, Sec 1.3). The Utilitarianism moral gauge is measured against the outcome of the actions. Therefore, making coffee farms sustainable has a significant benefit for future generations.
