atharine A MacKinnon wrote an interesting theory about Sexuality. When I first read the chapter, I thought that this chapter would be about women and their sexuality, however, MacKinnon had a different theory in mind, which states that: A theory of sexuality becomes feminist methodologically, meaning feminist in the post-marxist sense, to the extent it treats sexuality as a social construct of male power: defined by men, forced on women, and constructive of the meaning of gender (159). What I got from this is that sexuality is dominated by men and not women. Sexuality is and will always be forced upon women even when they are not aware of it. This is because women have and will continue to be a sexual object to men. The sad part about it is that little girls will also continue to be used as a sexual object for men. There is literally no way out for women, we will always be a walking sexual object for men. Even if we try to resist we cant because at the end of the day, we can not help what men picture in their head when they see a woman or teenage girl walking down the street, or as they are talking to a woman/teenage girl. In the reader, the author states that rape is occasioned by womens resistance to sex. Men would rape less if they got more voluntary compliant sex from women (163). I do not see why women should be more compliant to sex just so that men could rape less women. Nowadays there are many women who are open with their sexuality and let it be known that they like to have sex. However, men still decide to prey on the women who are not interested in them and rape them. Not only that, but men also prey on young girls and teenage girls instead of going out and looking for someone who will be interested in having sex with them. Because of this I disagree with MacKinnon, men will continue to rape regardless if women make themselves available for them or not because till this day, rape is still on going. We hear cases of women being raped in the United States Army and nothing is done until the victim is murdered. Even still justice is sometimes not served since the perpetrator ends up committing suicide. The senerio of sexual abuse is: you do what I say. These textualities and these relations, situated within as well as creating a context of power in which they can be lived out, becomes sexuality (165). It is more than clear that men rape because they want too. Men abuse women, teenage girls, and even little girls because they feel more pleasure when a woman/teenage girl/little girl has nothing more to do than to take what is being done to them. I remember when I was 5 years old and I was being
babysitted by my little sisters aunty and uncle. My sisters aunt went out and left me with her husband because she trusted him so much. While they were gone her husband put porn on the tv and told me to suck his penis just like the girl on the TV was doing to the man. I was so scared and started crying, he however did not care, he threatened me with my mom and said that if I did not do as he says that he will tell my mom I did not behave. He knew that my mom would whoop me if I did not behave because she made it clear everytime she would leave me with a babysitter. At that point I had no choice but to do as he said. In many instances, men have sexual intercourse with a woman as mentioned in the quote when they are not in thier right mind, in other words, when the woman is intoxicated. Its like they enjoy having intercourse with a woman when they are unaware of what is going on, and when they are at their most vulnerable time. Not only that but things get more intense for men and sometimes the women as well when they role play and degrade the women, especially when the woman is tied up, blinded up, or tortured as the quote states. To a certain extent I do also believe that some women (those who make themselves sexually available) also enjoy when men make them feel taken and used. This is because some women enjoy the thought of being taken advantage of sexually and being dominated against thier will. During my teen years, middle school years to be exact, I remember when older men would always try to get at me. At times I would be scared to walk home because many would pull up next to me in their car, others would follow me and ask me how old I was. There was a time when two of my guy friends got robbed by some guys who were in their early twenties and then decided to try to talk to me and give me a ride. That day was the day that I asked my friends, why are guys such perverts?” Why is it that I can never make it home without a guy always trying to talk to me and I remember my one of my friends responding look at you, you got what men like” and my other friend responded with they look at you like a pornstar because of how your body is shaped. Since then I felt that men are nasty perverts
because of pornography and MacKinnon confirmed this with the following pornograghy is a means through which sexuality is socially constructed, a site of construction, a domain of exercise. It constructs women as things for sexual use and constructs its consumers to desperately want women, to desperatly want possesstion and cruelty and dehumanization (167). I literally feel that men are perverted jack-rabbits because of porn. They see women as walking sexual objects and picture what they look like naked within seconds. The crazy part about it, is if the women do not give the men any play, the men get aroused even more. Yet, there are some men who end up getting mad and start trying to dehumanize the women. Sometimes I cant help but wonder why men think the way they do when it comes to women. Many times I have heard men say did you see the way she was looking at you, you could have hit that if you wanted too. Just because a woman looked at them with a smile on her face. Its like, women can not do anything without being sexualized. If we dress up nice, then we are out to seek attention from men. If we continue on with a conversation in class or at work with another man then we must like them. Therefore, I do not understand how in the world the following quote even came about. Raped women are seen as asking for it: if a man wanted her, she must have wanted him (168). If a woman would have wanted to be with the man, then she would have never been claimed to be raped.
