Project 1 is a 2-page trend analysis paper in which you explain and defend why this is a good time to launch a venture based on your idea. You are answering the question: why now? A successful trend analysis paper will present a new venture idea in a way that clearly identifies:
(a) the problem you wish to solve and who you believe has the problem,
(b) the solution your venture proposes to provide and how the venture is unique,
(c) why this is the right time to launch this business, including the current and future trend(s) (social, demographic, economic, regulatory, and/or technological) that strongly support the development of your venture concept.
Note: Item (c) should be viewed as the core of the paper. To score well on item (c), you are required to conduct some detailed research using one or more of the authoritative 3rd party databases listed below to identify supportive market and industry trends. You are encouraged to use more than one of the databases and to also identify other 3rd party reports or publications (e.g. news, articles, etc.) that help you to articulate why now? is the right time to develop this venture (and product) concept.
As you develop your analysis, make sure your discussion is engaging, compelling, and understandable to a potential partner, investor, or collaborator (i.e. to the reader!). Pique their interests early with what you present and how you tell your story. Your paper should include the name of your proposed venture and product or service. The paper should also identify at least one key competitor that is already operating in the market space you have identified (or in a closely related one).
Formatting Guidelines:
Your paper should be written using 10-12 point Arial font and be no more than 2 pages in length. It should be crisp and professional in tone (1st or 3rd person), and logical in structure/scope throughout. It should use proper grammar, sentence, and paragraph structures. And it should have a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. You may use headings to identify the various sections if you wish, but this is not mandatory. If it is helpful to include an illustration or graphical information, please do so as an attached Appendix (i.e. page 3) to the paper. Please cite the reference materials you use to develop your trend analysis in the Appendix using proper APA format. See separate rubric (Bb) for detailed grading guidelines.
