Criminal Justice

Criminal justice usually means the network formed by governmental and non-governmental organizations and law enforcement which includes the courts, police, and defense lawyers. This also includes the agencies that detain and supervise people while in prison, personnel in probation agencies and the personnel in jails (Gaines & Miller, 2021). There are many factors involved in criminal justice such as victimology, drugs and crime which are among the many things in criminal justice which are important to know to a person doing the study of this course.

In criminal justice, we will discuss several factors affecting criminal justice which include:

· Ethics and diversity

· Drugs and crime 

· Cybercrime

· Victimology

· Human trafficking 

· Mental health

· Negative social environment 

· Unfavorable childhood experiences

· Juvenile justice

· Community corrections

· Criminal investigations 

· criminology

 

           Ethics And Diversity

 In this course, we will take a look at the conclusions of ethics and diversity in the criminal justice field. We will also look at the importance of ethical behavior in law enforcement and the court system (Terril, 2015). As students, we will also look at the usefulness of diversity in the criminal justice system. In this way, they will have also to learn about cultural diversity and how it is a pillar of a predisposed criminal system.

Drugs And Crime 

In this course, we will see how drugs and crimes have a big influence on the criminal justice system. The drug offender population in prisons is high and there is also a higher percentage of prisoners who have an active substance use disorder (Joyce, 2017). Therefore, there must be civil education for the public so that their drug use does not come in the way of life of many people. 

Victimology

We will learn how victimology as a subset of criminology is important to the crimes committed by the offender. Whether the proprietors were strangers to the offender or there were mere acquittances. This can explain why the offender targeted the place they targeted and the people they targeted.

            Human Trafficking

There is also a big issue of human trafficking that is going on in many parts of the world, especially in the US. There are many women and children in the US who are victims of child labor and sexual exploitation, making the US one of the worst countries hit by modern-day slavery. Therefore, addressing today’s human trafficking has become one of the top priorities for the human justice system all over the world (Gaines & Miller, 2021). Even though all of this is happening there are many criminal justice professionals and federal lawmakers who are working to reduce the frequency of these occurrences.

Negative Social Environment 

It is important is also to check the environment in which the offender of the crime grew up around the time of the offenders bringing up. If a child is brought up in a high-crime neighborhood there is a very high chance when the child is grown up, they will end up engaging in criminal activities (Terril, 2015). This is because the frequent occurrence of criminal activities around the offender as a child happened frequently. Research also shows that in an upbringing of a child in poverty the child will most likely end up in prison.

           Cybercrime

With the increase in technology, the world has become more and more reliant on computers making it also more exposed to cybercrime. Most cybercrime is done through a computer using the internet network (Joyce, 2017). There are many forms of cybercrime for example online stalking, blackmailing, credit card fraud, and software piracy which have brought a huge amount of loss to people. 

            Mental Health

It is also of most importance that a criminologist strives to understand why people commit crimes, in which it has become clear that the major reason is mental health. Instead of people getting the proper medical help they need, many people with mental health issues commit crimes unknowingly and find themselves in prison. Many of the people in jail have a history of mental health which might have led to their arrest (Gaines & Miller, 2021). Therefore, the whole of the criminal justice system has a big job working together to address this issue especially by educating the public on this issue.

           Unfavorable Childhood Experiences

This is a major factor because the bringing up of a child will have a big influence on the child’s adult life. In case the child is brought up in a violent environment the child will grow up to be a violent person as the child will normalize the violence they see (Terril, 2015). A child’s upbringing may lead to the child becoming arrested or being put in jail. 

            Juvenile Justice

This is an overview of the major issues in juvenile justice, this includes the causes of these juveniles becoming delinquent. There is also the development of modern treatment methods to reduce the occurrence of these cases especially due to the upcoming future generations (Gaines & Miller, 2021). A lot of emphasis is put on the delinquents’ relationships, especially with their family or friends.

Community corrections

This checks on the community correctional alternatives such as parole, probation imposed on the offenders, community service, day reporting centers, halfway houses, probations, drug courts, and other intermediate sanctions (Terril, 2015). It also covers correctional law, emerging trends, controversies and political pressures.

Criminal Investigation

These are the techniques, strategies and methods used by the criminal investigators at the scene of the crime. The follow-up investigations were done by the investigators, the sources of information and the interrogations by the investigators.

           Criminology

This is a deep analysis of a criminal’s actions during an organized crime, an occupational crime and also the occasional street crime (Joyce, 2017). We will learn how to categorize, investigate and relate the hypothesis on social control and criminality.
