I thought it was interesting that one of the methods to managing Imposter syndrome was to keep on faking it. When first mentioned, I was intrigued to know how that can actually do good instead of harm. Once he explained it, however, I was able to see why it can be a help. Seeing and telling yourself that others are also not the most authentic can almost be a confident boost that we don’t really have to be completely authentic all the time. Its completely natural to put up a little bit of a personality when talking to people.
The more I thought about this way of thinking, the more I realized how many times we are actually told not to do t his when we are younger. Often times, in our childhood, there is this thing about being fake being seen as negative and although I agree that it can be, there is also this positive side that sometimes that is how you need to think of things. With Imposter syndrome being so common among individuals, it can be seen as a way to prevent the negative thought of feeling worse than every one else or just someone pretending to be something they really aren’t.
After reading an article about Imposter Syndrome, and looking more into how to manage it as well as the effects it can have on a persons life if left unmanaged, I think the most important part was owning your own success. Although it is hard to acknowledge your own accomplishments sometimes. The article stressed the importance of realizing that not everything you see about people is true or as it appears. Humans are flawed beings and its ok. Often times we show the perfect version of ourselves to the society, but we have to remember that just like us other people do that as well. It makes one appreciate their accomplishments more and not get discouraged when they see others around them.
