Hospital Summary: A mate newborn. born at this hospital with preaxial polydactyly of the thumbs, bilateral claw hands and claw feet. had a harsh murmur heard posteriorly and faint femoral pulses on initial newborn exam. The newborn was 39 weeks gestation and was born yaginaily. ICardiology was consulted and determined a diagnosis of coarctation of the aorta and a very small conoyentricuiar septal defect. Using a cardiopulmonary bypass. the newborn had an open excision of the thoracic aorta with and and-to-end anastomosis but the USE) could not be repaired at this young age due to closeness to the aortic valve. Cardiology will follow to manage the VSD at a later date. Orthopedics was consulted for the hand and feet deformities and will schedule serial repairs after the age of about one year. The family wiil be seen by Medical Genetics as an outpatient for possible determination of a syndrome that encompasses this combination of defects.
