Please answer the following prompt:

As we have seen, humanity has often attributed acts of evil to outside forces (ie Demons, Devils, Karma, God). How could this be seen simply as a copout to avoid the consequences of our own actions? How does this affect our psyches positively and negatively when dealing with evils in this world?

In your essays, I would like you to use:

At least four different peer reviewed sources to help substantiate your points.

At least two of the sources should come from those used during “in class” article presentations (you may read article summaries posed in the discussion treads to get a glimpse into what the article is about);

At least two other sources “outside” the texts supplied in this class. (you will need to do research)

At least one concept discussed in a class lecture given in the previous section. (This does not count as a peer reviewed source, but I want to make sure the lectures are utilized to construct your arguments)

There are some great resources out there to help you find appropriate peer reviewed source material. One place to find some good journal articles is JSTOR (www.jstor.orgLinks to an external site.). You should have free access to these articles through your SDSU account. Of course, there is also the SDSU library, which contains plenty of books, journal, etc. to help you with this task as well. I’d like you to avoid using websites, as often these are not the most reliable and lack peer reviewed status.

When providing these sources, you must use the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS or Chicago Style). I will provide a useful guide on Canvas for those of you who are unfamiliar with this style of referencing.

Your essays will be graded on the following criteria:

evidence that the factual material called for in the question is presented and documented;

coherence of the essay in organization and structure;

ability to engage critically and analytically with the topic

evidence of creative thinking;

correct annotation of sources and presentation of bibliography;

correct spelling, punctuation and grammar.
