*Write a short essay proposing adding a Biblical Worldview component to the IMF *

The Bible says, “In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive” (NASB1995). The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is built on reasonably great principles. The IMF supports countries in achieving global success while striving to relieve poverty through driving economic growth. I propose adding a Biblical Worldview component that lowers the payback option or cutting it ultimately would be vital to bringing up lower-income countries.

Removing these aspects from the IMF process could hurt if they were left entirely out of the hands of governing agents. Here is where we ask the question, why? Well, if everyone had a Biblical Worldview, this could work, but not all look at being helped from the Christian point of view. The Bible states, “Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser, Teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning” (NASB1995). From that quote, some take help and go on their way, while others take the service and use what they have learned to teach others, benefiting more than just themselves. Adding important guidelines would be significant in the success of adding this Biblical Worldview component. I mean, with all the support and relief offered, there would need to be incentives beyond just accepting the funds for the growth of the receiving country. But great could be the success of countries if there was less of a burden to pay back and a greater focus on the country’s development. This would ultimately feed back into the global success and economies worldwide by involving more economic growth. According to Satterlee (2018), “The overall motivation for the existence of the IMF was that the development of less-developed countries is in the interest of more-developed countries.” Humans constantly strive to achieve, and our mission as Christians is to be helpers to those in need, which is a fantastic effort to incorporate this proposal into the IMF. Would you agree to add this Biblical Worldview component to IMF?

The Bible says many things about the role money should play in one’s life. “The Bible says we’re to worship God above all else and not worship idols (Exodus 20:3–4, Matthew 6:24). But people often turn their material possessions—especially money—into gods without even realizing it” (Solutions, 2021). Galatians 6:8 says we are to live to glorify God, but the world points us to live differently (Solutions, 2021). It points us to live a life full of working for money and to buy material things (Solutions, 2021). Society has conditioned people to be greedy for money and want things others have instead of being appreciative of what they have and seeing it as a blessing from God.

“Foreign companies take advantage of currency devaluation in unstable countries by buying more goods for the same amount of money and exporting the goods to other countries for resale and monetary profit” (Satterlee, 2018). Some countries are money greedy and will charge a country more even if that means the buying country struggles. This is what the economy has created and shown is okay behavior. Christians know this behavior is wrong because it is said in Proverbs 15:27 (ESV) “Whoever is greedy for unjust gain troubles his own household, but he who hates bribes will live”. In conclusion, the Bible says in many different verses that Christians are not to be money greedy and instead live their lives to glorify God and in turn will be blessed.
