Film Presentation

ART2010 Film Presentation Guidelines

Because this is such a visual course, your mid-term exam will not be the traditional multiple choice and/or essay question exam. Instead each student will be responsible for creating and submitting an in-depth presentation on one film that we watched in this course, analyzing the elements of film, including mise en scene, film and camera techniques, etc. These guidelines below provide further detail:

1. Select one film from the list below (culled from entire term; see list below) and conduct a thorough analysis of the elements of film. Begin with a synopsis of the film, its director (mentioning other films he or she is known for), the year the film was released, and what actors played the main characters. Then take a screen shot of one scene and conduct a thorough mise en scene of that scene.

2. Utilizing film terminology, look at unique camera techniques and consider why and how they are used and what that means for the characters, settings, and ultimately, the storyline.

3. Your Film Presentation should include at least ten (10) slides, not including the title and Works Cited. Each slide should include visuals, such as screen shots and short clips from your film, and minimal text. You are required to record your presentation with audio commentary that elaborates on the talking points from your slides. I recommend using a free platform called Zoom to record your presentation. Please review the user guides linked here for detailed information about how to download Zoom and use it to record a presentation and upload it to ulearn.

4. Submit your Film Presentation in the Mid-term drop box no later than midnight on Sunday of Week 6.

Your Film Presentation will be graded based on these criteria:

The presentation meets all of the above requirements.

The presentation is thorough and provides specific examples and in-depth analysis.

The presentation includes 10 to 12 slides that are professional and easy to read.

o The title and Works Cited slides do not count toward the number of slides.

o The slides are creative and include both visuals and minimal text.

o The slides are free of grammar and spelling errors.

The presentation provides cohesive audio narration that clearly demonstrates critical thinking and analysis.

The presentation is submitted by the required due date.
