For this activity, I would like you to prepare thoughtful responses to the following questions:

  1. Do you feel that storytelling can be a compelling way to aid in the design process of applications? Explain your answer.
  2. What process do you go through when you have needs competing against one another and you need to prioritize those needs into the “big picture”?
  3. What do you think some impacts would be if we started to treat our digital products as human beings we interact vs. pixels on a screen? Think about how you interact with people in your life and provide examples of ways digital products could act in a similar way.

Prepare your responses to these questions in one post, by the Friday after the assignment is assigned. Responses must be 500 words or more, not including the questions themselves. Please also clearly delineate where you are answering each question.

I have broken the class into groups to keep the number of repetitive ideas down. However, each student will be graded individually. As part of this activity, you are to respond to each of your group members’ posts with commentary, areas of agreement/disagreement, and points of clarification.

Grading for this activity will be assessed according to the following rubric:

  • Student posts replies to some, but not all, of their group members before 11:55 PM the night the activity is due.
  • Responses are analytical and topical (applied text or lecture teaching points or real-life examples).
  • Responses contain minor proofreading errors.

7-8.9 points
  • Student responds to some, but not all, questions by the Friday after the activity is assigned.
  • Initial post is 300-400 words, not including the questions themselves.
  • Student posts replies to some, but not all, of their group members before 11:55 PM the night the activity is due.
  • Responses are slightly off-topic or don’t answer the question.
  • Responses contain several proofreading errors.

Less than 7 points
  • Student participation is minimal.
  • Responses lack analysis and/or are not topical.
  • Responses are difficult to read due to significant proofreading problems.

No participation. No responses.
