Thank you for inquiring about your Satisfactory Academic Progress and your ability to appeal your eligibility for financial aid. A student may submit an appeal to have their eligibility for financial aid reinstated based on a mitigating circumstance that prevented the student from meeting the standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). Mitigating circumstances may include the death of a relative, an injury or illness to the student, or other special circumstances.
Your appeal must be submitted through the electronic Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeals form that will be provided to you through the Student Account Center. You will be required to provide responses to each of the following:
- The mitigating circumstances that prevented you from meeting the SAP standards;
- Any substantiating evidence proving the mitigating circumstance affected your academic success;
- Information outlining what has changed in your personal situation that will allow you to demonstrate satisfactory academic progress by the next SAP evaluation period.
It is very important that you complete and submit this as soon as possible, delays may impact your ability to continue.
Once you have submitted your Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal, the Academic Review Committee will assess the appeal. The Committee will typically respond to you within ten business days from the point in time you submit your appeal to make a determination. The Committee’s decision will be communicated to you by email from our Compliance Department and their decision is final.
If approved, you will be provided with an Academic Plan that you must follow in order to remain eligible for continued enrollment and access to financial aid, if desired. This plan will also include resources that will help lead you towards academic success.
