11 May History of Early Christianity
TRS 380: History of Early Christianity
Thesis paper
Overview:
The final draft of this paper will be of significant length (5-7 pages).
Using the New Testament (mostly what we read and worked through in class), Lynch and O’Malley answer this question: Is the academic study of theology consistent with the origins of Christianity? To answer this question you will need to examine the culture of the academic approach and compare that to the origins and history of Christianity. You will be graded on the strength of your argument.
Procedure:
A first draft (at least 5 pages) is due April 26. Email two copies. One will go to the professor, the other to your assigned reader (obviously you will be a reader as well). Readers are to read the draft critically, perhaps several times. Make substantive suggestions as well as corrections of grammar and construction. The reader’s goal is to assist the writer in making her/his point more clearly. The more critical the reader is, the better the writer’s final draft will be
Responses are due to the writer by April 28. Peers should use the rubric on Canvas.
The final draft of the paper is due May 3. At that time you should email your final draft and the rubric shared by your peer. This will demonstrate how well the writer appropriated the comments made about the first draft.
The final draft should have no spelling errors, no grammatical errors, and be clearly written. Since an early draft is being reviewed, points will be subtracted for poor writing.
