This play, the last in the trilogy that begins with Oedipus the King, centers around the rather classic debate between Antigone and Creon regarding the burying of Polynices, Antigone’s brother and Creon’s nephew, who fought against Creon and Eteocles (Antigone’s other brother) for control of Thebes.  Antigone represents familial values and adherence to divine law, whereas Creon represents societal values and adherence to human (state) law.  Do you see evidence in the play which shows how each character represents her/his side?  What do you make of their arguments?  And in the end, who do you feel wins this debate and why?  Be specific in your responses.
