This week we are looking at Lifespan Development.  This is a fascinating topic and our understanding of the early phases of life offer much in the way of understanding ourselves as adults.  This week we will are exploring at a diversity of topics ranging from birth to personality and attachment. 

Within our readings we find discussion on many elements of early development, to include:  forming social bonds, the challenges of childcare, personality development and attachment, cognitive development, and social and emotional development.  This week we will discuss the “Parenting and Senior Care

For this discussion you will present your views on issues impacting nurturing environments necessary for raising a child, or for caring for senior family members.  Granted this topic can take a personal tone, I want us all to remain collegial and respectful of the points shared within the discussion.  There will be diversity in what each one of us thinks is necessary to successfully raise a child or to positively meet the needs of an aging family/community member. For example, keep in mind there are single, multiple, and extended family households in which children thrive and grow-up to be wonderful contributors to our society and seniors become the patriarchs/matriarchs of their communities.

As you present your views of what it takes to be a successful parent or senior provider, integrate elements from our learning resources.  For example, if you are discussing single parenting, you can share how this form of parenting impacts attachment.

As you prepare your post, think of your own experience or the experiences of those you know at this age. In your post, consider the framework of developmental stages and the major developmental theories you learned about in this module (psychosocial, cognitive, and moral), and apply them. 

Prompt:  Present your perspective of what it takes to create a nurturing environment for raising a child or caring for a senior member of the family/community.  As you do so, integrate concepts (stages, theories, etc.) that connect issues that impact one or two of the elements of development presented by our text.
