Final Exam – Design Six Individual Holes

Instructions and Requirements:

STEP 1.

Make SIX separate drawings for the following:

1. par 3 penal design, provide blue, white and red tees, provide 3 bunkers, water hazard and rough around the green. Position blue tee 160 yds from green, white 150 yds, red 110 yds (so golfers can hit their 5 iron based on the second table below). All measurements from CENTER OF TEE TO CENTER OF GREEN.
2. par 3 strategic design, provide blue, white and red tees, 3 green-side bunkers and water hazard. Use 3 wood tee shot and men’s and women’s short distance hitting capability for white and red tees, and men’s middle distance hitting capability for blue tee.
3. par 4 heroic design, provide blue, white and red tees, water, trees, 3 green-side bunkers, 4 mounds around the green, and fairway rough. Explain length of hole based on driver + one more club (eg. 3 wood, 5 wood, 5 iron or 7 iron etc.) to reach green for regulation (regulation = 2 less than par).
4. par 4 strategic design, provide blue, white and red tees, water, trees, 3 green-side bunkers, 2 mounds around the green, 2 depressions around the green, and fairway rough. Explain length of hole based on driver + one more club (eg. 3 wood, 5 wood, 5 iron or 7 iron) to reach green for regulation (regulation = 2 less than par).
5. par 5 heroic design, provide blue, white and red tees, water, trees, 3 green-side bunkers, 2 mounds around the green, 2 depressions around the green, and fairway rough. Explain length of hole based on driver + two more clubs (eg. 3 wood or 5 wood and then one more club (eg. 5 wood or 5 iron or 7 iron) to reach green for regulation (regulation = 2 less than par).
6. par 5 strategic design, provide blue, white and red tees, water, trees, 3 green-side bunkers and fairway rough of two heights. Explain length of hole based on driver + two more clubs (eg. 3 wood or 5 wood and then one more club (eg. 5 wood or 5 iron or 7 iron) to reach green for regulation (regulation = 2 less than par).

Keep in mind:

Also keep in mind that blue tees are typically used for men’s competitive tees, white for men’s regular tees and red for older juniors, women, and senior men.

The table below provides an idea of how far men and women hit the ball – 3 different distances for each, depending on long, medium and short hitters.

STEP 2.

Provide, in words, an explanation of how you planned your design and why (50-100 words per design).

• Scale correctly represented
• Explanations for every decision of the reason for each element of the design.
• Each of the SIX hole designs must have correct rationale for each design element. Reference my Powerpoint Chapters and Slidenumber
• Provide a TOTAL of at least 20 design element explanations
• There MUST be at least one reference from each of chapters 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
