Project 3, CO 3431 – Project procedures:
The third and final project is posted in the Projects module. It is due by e-mail by 5:00 PM on our last session of the semester, Thursday, Dec. 2.
The project has 2 sections: one on time series and one including 5 multiple choice questions, representing the Florida legislature’s State Mandated Learning Outcomes Compact (SMALC) requirement for students at state universities (you’ve probably encountered a similar requirement in some of your other classes). The project data set is posted in the Project module on the class site.
You may consult your notes, the posted outlines, and the texts. But – let me stress that your project must be your own work, written in your own words. Download the project, type (no pics, screen shots, etc.) your answers IN BLUE TYPE on the project, save it as a word (.docx) file, attach your completed project and pdf files of your graphs as attachments to your e-mail. Send your e-mail to me at the correct address: [email protected]. Write ‘Project # 3’ in the subject line of your e-mail.
Since I’ll have a limited time to read the projects (from both of my classes), calculate project grades, then calculate semester grades, and, finally, get them to the registrar by their deadline, I won’t be accepting late projects. They must get to me by 5:00 PM.
Identify each problem and section clearly, and don’t forget to write your name on the project.
This isn’t a term paper, so don’t write long, drawn-out answers. Extra, unnecessary verbiage and coverage of topics will lower your grade. If you use the correct terminology your answers won’t be very long. I will grade this project more rigorously than I have the exams or past projects: I’ll pay particular attention to how well you have thought the problems through. I’ll be looking for evidence that you understand the concepts that the problem is addressing. You have about 10 days to work on this project , so I won’t be very forgiving of sloppiness, omissions, or careless errors.
I consider the projects to be equivalent to take-home exams, so…
* Once the project is posted, I will answer clarifying questions only. I won’t answer questions specifically related to answering problems on the project – just as I wouldn’t answer a question on how to solve an exam problem during an exam.
* I don’t provisionally evaluate early drafts of the project, no more than I would tell students during an exam whether or not their answers are ‘on the right track.’
Dec. 2 is our last scheduled session of the semester. We won’t meet on campus that day – your only requirement is turning in your projects by 5 PM. There’s no final exam, so on 12/2 we’ll be done for the semester.
