Group Case: The Roanoke Shootings (60pts)

This week, your faculty will assign you to one of several groups and build the Content page for your group by Thursday (Day 4).  You may network and discuss the case if you like, but the main body of work is expected to take place during Module Six.  Your group will employ the Group Content page created in your group to participate in Module Six (or before, if you like).

The Teamwork Case:  The Roanoke Shootings

On August 26, 2015, two reporters for a Roanoke, Virginia TV station were shot and killed by a former employee while conducting an on-air interview as part of their job (Murders of Alison Parker and Adam Ward, A Shooting on Live TV in Virginia, and Search Yahoo for reporter killed in roanoke shooting video will give you some context for the facts of this event).  Do some research into this event, and develop a report, using the following questions as guidance:

1. What obvious or unobvious flaws in the station’s HR and security structure, including hiring, screening, and security processes, were contributory to the incident and the unfortunate demise of Ms. Parker and Mr. Ward?

2. Were a disgruntled employee to commence an action at your workplace, how would your workers respond, and what would be the likely outcome?  Why do you say this? 

3. What types of policies, including everything from employment practices, training practices, and safety measures, might you have taken or should take in the future to mitigate either the possibility or impact of such an occurrence?

• Identify and define the central dilemma presented in the case

• Select and gather pertinent areas of consideration, and identify critical data and stakeholders (if you need to make assumptions about any of the facts in the case, be sure to specify these assumptions in your analysis)

• Gather additional information and research as necessary

• Identify and investigate all appropriate possibilities to resolve the central issues, and present at least three different options

• Select and present the best solution and include support for the decision that recognizes positions of all the stakeholders

• Describe how to implement the best solution and include strategies to address the known challenges. Also include the likely implications of the selected solution.
