1. What area or areas of Public Health Science appeal to you most? Why?  **Be specific and thoroughly describe the area of public health and why it is important. 

a. Mental Health – Emphasizes early intervention, prevention of mental illness, and promotion of mental health through public health education.

i. I am married to a 100% Disabled Veteran and have worked with many other with PTSD, with the Wounded Warriors

ii. Since childhood I have suffered from ADHD and want to help others..  I am also Bipolar and understand the struggles. 

b. Health Administration – Study of the skills, values, and conceptual abilities needed for management roles in health care, health policy, and public health. 

i. I have been an Accounting or Operations Manager for over 20 years, my first Bachelors is in Business Administration and Health Care runs in the family.  My mother is a nurse and I have been a certified Caregiver for 8 years.  

ii. I would like to used my knowledge from my mother, Caregiver training and Business Administration to help others.

c. Maternal and Child Health – Focuses on the improvement of public health delivery systems for women, children, and their families through advocacy, education, and research.

i. Foster children and child victims need someone to be there for them.  What can be done? 

d. Community Health – Focuses on work with defined communities to identify and resolve public health problems and to promote well-being.

i. Every community needs more people to want to help without wanting something for exchange.  I want to be a person to help people.

e. Health Promotion and Communications – Organized response to promote health and prevent illness, injury, and disability using communication mediums.

i. Working with the Disabled Veterans I learned that no matter how much you communicate, it is never enough, I am a great talker and want to help.

2. What area or areas of Public Health Science are least appealing to you? Why? **Be specific.

a. Infectious Diseases – Study of illnesses resulting from the transmission of microbial agents through diverse pathogens, disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, and the prevention of infectious diseases.

i. Science is not my best subject, too much  to knowdetail required

b. Veterinary Public Health – Study of the prevention and control of zoonotic diseases—transmissible from animals to humans—in both animal and human populations.

i. Animals love me, but I am not a fan of them

c. Biomedical Lab Sciences – Focuses on laboratory techniques in areas such as microbiology, immunology, virology, molecular biology, as applied to research on public health issues.

i. Too much science knowledge to remember.  My ADHD will not let me focus. 

d. Neuroscience – An interdisciplinary field which may include research in areas such as molecular neuroscience, neurophysiology, and computational modeling, with applications for vaccine development, response to bioterrorism attacks, and control or prevention of diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

i. I am good with math but too much science. 

3. What do you feel are the four (4) biggest challenges facing public health / health care services in the United States? **Provide specific examples and research.
