Mechanics:

• Word count should be between 1,200 to 1,500 words (not including the title page, citations, or bibliography).

• Your main objective is to be informative, clear, and concise.

• Margins: Use the default setting of your word application (e.g., MS Word) for the margins of your essay. The top and bottom default margins on MS Word are 1 inch; the left and right are 1.25 inches.

• Acceptable fonts: Calibri, Arial, or Helvetica (10 or 12 point)

• Required Sections:

• Paper topic/Introduction – Explain what your paper is about (where you will introduce the subject you have researched). Include your thesis. A thesis is a proposition you are trying to prove or the position you are advocating.

• Content – Build your arguments for or against the topic (consistent with your findings). Make sure you explain each of the concepts you are writing about (e.g., what constitutes a benefits program?)

• Conclusion – What do you see happening in this space? What are the likely implications of this topic in the workplace? The key to effectively wrapping up your paper is to substantiate your position carefully with an eye toward the future.

• Address each of the required sections.

• Skip inflammatory and trite comments (e.g., never, always, I feel, I believe

• Use credible resources. If you wonder whether a resource is credible, please ask.

• This is an academic assignment, and appropriate references, footnotes, and attribution are required.

• Do not fall prey to a stream of consciousness writing approach.

• Proofread your paper carefully. If there are more than five grammatical, punctuation, or word choice errors, you could lose an entire grade or more. There are numerous free apps available to help proofread. I use the professional version of Grammarly and find it is of great help. It is not, however, foolproof, so proofread at least twice before submitting.

• Late submissions will not be accepted.
