Assignment 1: Writing Workshop

Writing is more than just one step. It is a process that involves drafting and revising.

Writers often benefit from having a strong support network where they can share their work. For this Assignment, you’ll do just that! By sharing a piece of writing from your other class, you’ll gain even more perspective on your work. You can also use this feedback as you continue to strengthen your writing skills beyond this course.

To prepare for this Assignment:

Choose ONE of the following options:

Option 1: Select an upcoming assignment or discussion from the program course you’re currently taking (such as Foundations). Write a first draft of at least 1 page of the assignment or discussion.

Option 2: Select a previously submitted assignment or discussion from the program course you’re currently taking (such as Foundations). Choose a 1-page sample from the assignment or discussion to submit for feedback.

Option 3: Select an assignment or discussion you submitted in a previous course. Choose a 1-page sample from the assignment or discussion to submit for feedback.

By Day 2

Submit 1 double-spaced page (around 250 words) of your writing sample.

Be sure to paste the assignment instructions into your draft so that your instructor understands the purpose of the assignment.

Your instructor will provide feedback by Day 6.

The feedback will focus on the writing aspects only.

Note: If you chose to submit an upcoming assignment or discussion from the program course you are currently taking, remember to review your writing instructor’s feedback after grading so you can improve the draft for final submission in your other course.

Submission and Grading Information

To submit your completed Assignment for review and grading, do the following:

Please save your Assignment using the naming convention “WK2Assgn1+last name+first initial.(extension)” as the name.

Click the Week 2 Assignment 1 Rubric to review the Grading Criteria for the Assignment.

Click the Week 2 Assignment 1 link. You will also be able to “View Rubric” for grading criteria from this area.

Next, from the Attach File area, click on the Browse My Computer button. Find the document you saved as “WK2Assgn1+last name+first initial.(extension)” and click Open.

If applicable: From the Plagiarism Tools area, click the checkbox for I agree to submit my paper(s) to the Global Reference Database.

Click on the Submit button to complete your submission.

Week 2 Assignment 2

Assignment 2: Feedback Journal

Using feedback is an important part of the writing process. Through feedback, writers have conversations which provide encouragement and suggestions on their colleagues’ work. For Assignment 2, you’ll begin an ongoing dialogue with your instructor about the feedback you’ve received on your writing in this, and other, courses. Recording feedback in a journal also helps you track progress, celebrate successes, and keep resources handy.

In the Feedback Journal, you’ll document and track writing feedback you receive in this course, and your other classes. This is a living, breathing document—use it to also list helpful resources and links along the way in your writing journey.

To prepare for this Assignment:

Gather and review the recent writing feedback you’ve received in this course and/or your other course. The feedback could be from discussions or assignments.
