The aim of this part of the assessment is for you to demonstrate that you have mastered the practical skills of preparing a comprehensive position description to later support the development of a recruitment and selection strategy.
As soon as possible, but no later than 2:00 pm Tuesday, Week 3, send an e-mail to me , detailing the job title, the organisation (name, industry, size) and relevant department, the job location (city and country) and 1-2 sentences about the main purpose of the job. You MUST also specifically confirm that you can speak to someone who has this job and/or the job manager so that you can discuss the details of the job when you prepare the Position Description. Your e-mail should be clearly and professionally written. Please ensure your include ALL of the required details. That makes the process so much easier for us both!
IMPORTANT: I need to approve your choice of job BEFORE you progress with the assignment.
Once I have approved your job, you will interview your contact for the job and conduct a job analysis based on the tools and methods we discuss in Week 2. From this you will prepare a detailed Position Description (see attached template). You will need to clearly identify the business context for the job, the job tasks and responsibilities and the knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics (KSAOs) that a person will require to be successful in the job. In a covering note submitted with your Position Description, you will briefly describe the process you have used to develop your PD and briefly discuss the design of the job, using one of the models covered in Week 2 and evaluate it as sound or needing improvement. (See attached Hints & Tips document, and Week 2 material for more guidance)
Submit your Position Description with your brief covering note via Turnitin in the Assessments folder by Tuesday, Week 4, 2:00 pm. Please include PD_ and the title of your job in the name of your file. For example: PD_Mecca_Cosmetics_Saleperson.pdf.
